Collectivo de Pueblos Orginarios research projects focuses on adult and youth members of the P’urhepecha, Ñuu Savi and Kichwa Otavalo indigenous communities throughout South King County to explore the impacts of COVID-19 on inequities experienced by youth as well as the connections and cultural traditions that provided resilience during the pandemic. The Resilience of Indigenous Communities in Times of COVID-19
Over the past year members of three Indigenous communities, (The Ñuu Savi, Purhepecha, and Kichwa) who belong to diaspora pocket communities in King County, have worked to collect interviews and stories of the resiliency of their communities throughout the pandemic. This project centers on the way these three communities have often been misunderstood, leading to inequities in the distribution of resources, information, and data collection. The interviews allow the audience to gain insight into how our communities are structured, the way our culture plays an impact on our response to Covid-19, and how the pandemic unmasked the injustices we face.
La resiliencia de las comunidades indígenas en tiempos de COVID-19
En el último año, los miembros de tres comunidades originarias (Ñuu Savi, P’urhépecha, y Kichwa) pertenecientes a pequeñas comunidades en diáspora en el condado de King, han hecho el trabajo de entrevistar y recolectar historias de resiliencia en sus comunidades a lo largo de la pandemia. Este proyecto se centra en la manera que estas tres comunidades suelen ser malinterpretadas lo cual lleva a una falta de equidad en la distribución de recursos, información y recopilación de datos. Las entrevistas permiten que el público en general pueda entender y conocer desde adentro cómo están estructuradas nuestras comunidades, la manera cómo nuestra cultura ha impactado la respuesta que hemos tenido ante la contingencia del Covid-19, y como la pandemia ha destapado las injusticias que enfrentamos.
